Using RotoCodo to develop coding skills

This Computing video introduces teachers to the Rodocodo platform, supporting them in guiding pupils to develop coding skills through puzzle-based learning. It explains how pupils direct a character to its goal by dragging and dropping arrow commands to create algorithms, helping them understand how sequencing and control work in a digital environment.

Teachers are guided through accessing the Hour of Code resources and supporting the pupils as they build, test and refine their algorithms. The video demonstrates how pupils can reset puzzles, remove incorrect commands and progress through increasingly challenging levels that introduce new concepts such as rotation and warp spaces. It also encourages teachers to promote careful thinking about efficiency, helping the pupils aim for the most effective solution by creating the shortest and most accurate algorithm.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Computing – Year 2 videos, which enable teachers and pupils to develop their digital skills, explore key computing concepts and create their own digital projects.
