Understanding repetition and loops

This video introduces teachers to the skills needed to help pupils understand repetition and loops in coding. It explores how loops allow actions to be repeated automatically, how they are used in Scratch, and how pupils can apply them in animations, games, and interactive projects.

The video demonstrates the difference between fixed repetition using the repeat block and continuous repetition using the forever block. It explains how loops are introduced in Year 3, helping pupils create more efficient programs without needing to repeat individual commands. Teachers will see practical examples, such as looping dance steps in an animation or continuously playing a sound in a game.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Computing – Coding Skills resources. It simplifies the process, ensuring teachers feel confident and prepared to support pupils in using loops effectively to bring their coding projects to life.
