Online bullying

This RSE & PSHE video introduces teachers to online bullying and explains how harmful behaviour can take place on devices, games and online platforms. It explores different forms of online bullying, including unkind comments, exclusion, spreading rumours, threatening messages and sharing or editing images without permission. The video also explains how online messages can be misunderstood when facial expressions and tone of voice are missing.

The video explains how the lesson encourages children to consider how their behaviour affects others and understand that responding with further unkind behaviour can make situations worse. It introduces the role of an upstander and explores safe ways to respond, including telling a trusted adult, taking screenshots to save evidence and blocking or reporting accounts.

This video also reinforces that children should never put themselves at risk when helping others online and that the safest choice is always to tell a trusted adult. It reminds teachers to respond appropriately if children share personal experiences and follow their school’s safeguarding procedures where necessary.
