The online world in Years 3 and 4
This RSE & PSHE teacher unit overview video supports teachers delivering Kapow’s Year 3 and Year 4 online world units. It explains how the lessons help children develop a deeper understanding of online experiences and how these can affect wellbeing, relationships and the choices they make.
The video outlines the key themes covered across the units, including responsible and safe use, online relationships, risks and harms and reporting concerns. Teachers are guided in helping children recognise that respectful behaviour matters online as much as it does in person, and that online communication can sometimes lead to misunderstandings because people have fewer clues about what others are thinking or feeling.
The video also explores how children learn to think more critically about online content. It highlights age-appropriate ways to discuss privacy, age restrictions, screen time, unreliable information and misleading content, including information that may be exaggerated, outdated, fake or created by AI.
This video also offers guidance for managing sensitive questions and disclosures, including using a wonder box, avoiding assumptions about children’s online experiences and following safeguarding procedures if a child shares something concerning.
