Teaching sex education with confidence

This RSE & PSHE video explains how the unit builds on previous learning about growing up and relationships, supporting pupils to develop an age-appropriate understanding of conception, pregnancy, birth and family life. The video highlights how learning is taught factually, sensitively and in a way that supports safeguarding and pupil wellbeing.

The video outlines key learning about human reproduction, including conception, pregnancy and birth, as well as different ways families can grow, such as adoption, IVF and surrogacy. It also explores consent, personal boundaries and the importance of using correct vocabulary when discussing bodies and relationships. Practical guidance is included to help teachers create a safe and respectful learning environment, respond sensitively to questions and recognise the diverse family experiences that may be represented within the classroom.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s RSE & PSHE KS2 videos, which enable teachers and pupils to explore growth and change and help develop personal, social and emotional skills, as well as an understanding of relationships and health education.
