Challenging gender stereotypes in careers

This RSE & PSHE scheme of work video introduces teachers to the skills needed to help Key stage 2 pupils explore job roles and challenge gender stereotypes. It explains how stereotypes can restrict children’s choices, affect self-esteem, and create unfair expectations. The video demonstrates ways to help pupils recognise that jobs are not gender specific, and encourages them to focus on their own interests, skills, and passions when thinking about careers.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s RSE & PSHE Economic wellbeing resources. It simplifies the process, offering clear strategies for breaking down complex ideas, encouraging respectful discussion, and creating a safe classroom space. Teachers are supported in promoting fairness, empathy, and individuality, ensuring pupils feel confident to pursue any path without limits set by stereotypes.
