An overview of the knowledge and skills covered in the Connecting networks unit

This Computing teacher video provides an overview of the unit, introducing the key knowledge, skills and vocabulary pupils develop throughout the sequence of lessons. It explores networks and their components, including routers and servers, before explaining how local networks connect to form the internet and how the World Wide Web enables users to access websites and web pages. The video also addresses key vocabulary and common misconceptions that may arise during teaching.

The video explores how pupils develop their understanding of search engines and how networks allow people to communicate and collaborate. It also introduces how logins and permissions can control access to different areas of a network. Throughout, the emphasis is on supporting teachers to explain the relationships between networks, the internet and the World Wide Web clearly, helping pupils build a secure understanding of how connected computer systems work.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Computing videos, which support teachers in developing confidence and subject knowledge when teaching Computing.
