Computing vocabulary: A video dictionary

This Computing scheme of work video introduces key computing terms to help teachers understand and explain fundamental concepts in the curriculum. It explores essential terminology, including abstraction, algorithms, coding, debugging, decomposition, input and output, programs, repetition, selection, sequence and variables.

Each term is explained with clear, practical examples, for example, how abstraction simplifies complexity, how algorithms provide step-by-step instructions and how debugging helps identify and fix errors in code. The video also demonstrates how these concepts are used in programming tools such as Scratch, Python and micro:bit.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Computing – Coding Skills resources. It ensures teachers feel confident in using and teaching these key computing terms effectively.
