Teacher video: Building the band
This Music video supports teachers in guiding children through the final stage of the Four-Chord Pop unit, where they bring together their learning to rehearse and perform as a pop band. The video provides practical guidance on organising groups, assigning musical roles and adapting performances to suit the needs, confidence and resources of the class.
The video revisits the key musical roles within a band, including bass line, chords and vocals, and demonstrates how these parts work together to create a complete performance. Teachers are encouraged to support children in making musical decisions about the distribution of roles, rhythmic ideas and playing together, allowing each group to perform in a way that reflects their strengths.
As children prepare for performance, the video highlights the importance of developing rhythmic interest within the bass line and chord parts while maintaining a steady pulse and secure group playing. It also explores opportunities to extend performances by including introductions and additional creative choices where appropriate.
