Introduction to staff notation

This Music video introduces teachers to staff notation and how it is laid out. It explains how notes are positioned on the five-line stave to show pitch, introduces the treble and bass clefs, and demonstrates how bars, bar lines, and time signatures organise music into regular units. The video also highlights the use of repeat marks to avoid unnecessary rewriting of repeated sections.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Music scheme – notes. It provides teachers with a clear overview of how staff notation works, supporting them to feel confident when teaching pupils to read music. By linking pitch, rhythm, and structure to notation, it builds the foundation for pupils’ musical literacy and prepares them for more advanced work in future lessons.
