Visiting the temple of tooth

This Kapow pupil video is part of the Kapow Religion and worldviews scheme of work. Toby shares his travel vlog from Sri Lanka, where he visits the famous Temple of the Tooth in Kandy, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that holds what many believe to be one of the Buddha’s teeth. Toby explains the story of how the tooth came to Sri Lanka and describes the temple as one of the holiest places for Buddhists.

As an atheist, Toby visits the site out of interest in its history and cultural importance. While exploring the temple, he experiences a procession with drumming and singing, and notices the peaceful respect shown by pilgrims and monks. This makes him reflect on the different reasons people visit sacred places — for prayer, meditation, learning, or curiosity. He encourages viewers to think about how such places can inspire understanding, connection, and respect, regardless of personal beliefs.
