Why sleep helps us feel our best

This RSE & PSHE video helps the children understand what sleep is and why it is important. Through clear examples, the children learn that sleep is when their bodies and brains rest, helping them grow, stay healthy and have energy to learn and play. The video also explains how sleep helps their bodies repair and gives their brains time to sort and remember new information.

The children learn that most need between 9 and 12 hours of sleep each night, although this can vary. The video explores what can happen when children do not get enough sleep, such as feeling grumpy, finding it harder to concentrate and having less energy. It also introduces the idea of a bedtime routine, showing how simple, calming steps such as brushing teeth, reading a story or turning off screens can help the children fall asleep more easily and wake up feeling ready for the day.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s RSE & PSHE KS1 videos, which enable teachers and pupils to explore growth and change and help develop personal, social and emotional skills, as well as an understanding of relationships and health education.
