How to use stitches of different shapes and sizes to add details

In this Design and technology video, the pupils are shown how to make different types of stitches, such as a cross-stitch, rows of parallel stitches and diagonal stitches.

The video guides the pupils on how to make stitches other than a simple running stitch to add interest and details to their part-finished stitched bunting. Cross-stitch is demonstrated and some ideas are given on where it could be used to enhance a design. Parallel and diagonal stitches are also illustrated, along with some ideas on how they can be used to fill in sections of a design or create stripes. The pupils may choose to try one or more of these stitches when finishing their stitched bunting design.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Design and technology videos, which enable teachers and pupils to explore and make their own products.
