Adaptive teaching

Pupils needing extra support:

Should use the Activity: Locating Spanish-speaking countries: support, which has a completed colour-coded key showing the three regions of Latin America, correlating with the coloured outlines on the Resource: Country cards to help the children with locating each country on their map; could use the Resource: Country cards to play a grouping activity by reading the country names aloud and grouping them into the regions of Mexico, Central America and South America, using the colour coding on the cards as an aid.

Pupils working at greater depth:

Should use the Activity: Locating Spanish-speaking countries: extension, alongside an atlas to find the countries on the map and label them by hand, using the first letter on each of the labels as a clue; could use the internet to look up the languages spoken by the non-Spanish-speaking countries and label these with the official language spoken (e.g. Brasil – Portuguese; Guyana – English; Surinam – Dutch; Guayana Francesa – French; Belice – English.)
