Adaptive teaching

Pupils needing extra support

Should spend more time testing example projects to find out how they work; could adapt the code from an existing project and make simple changes to personalise it; could use the Activity: BBC micro:bit grids to help plan the light patterns if designing an animation; could be offered a reduced list of products to choose from that are easier to code, such as emoji buttons that show different emotions to reflect a child’s changing mood or a random number generator to decide which child answers a question in class.

Pupils working at greater depth

Could try to predict how a project works before seeing the code behind it; should use slide 2 of the Presentation: Coding the micro:bit to view the JavaScript code and explore the code, observing its effect on the project.
