Geography assessment: The essential progress tracker
This clear, downloadable spreadsheet allows teachers to record Geography assessments for each lesson plan in Kapow Primary’s Geography scheme of work, covering Year 1 to Year 6.
With details of every lesson’s learning objectives and level descriptors, the document provides the ideal place to record pupils’ formative assessment.
How do I use this Geography assessment spreadsheet?
For each lesson, review the ‘Assessing Pupils Progress’ statements in the spreadsheet, then indicate in the relevant cells whether each pupil is working towards (WT), secure understanding (SU) or greater depth (GD).
The spreadsheet will then calculate the percentage of lessons in which the pupil has achieved each grading and allow you to analyse whole-class trends.
Who is this Geography assessment spreadsheet useful for?
For teachers:
- Use the spreadsheet to quickly track which pupils may need extra challenges and which might require additional support.
- Determine each pupil’s attainment using the statements in the ‘Assessing pupils’ progress’ column for each lesson.
- If required, adapt future lessons to address gaps in knowledge or correct misconceptions.
For subject leaders:
- These assessment sheets can quickly form the basis of your analysis of Geography learning within your school.
- Quickly identify gaps in knowledge or ongoing trends and use this insight to determine what staff CPD may be needed, where extra resources might be required, or simply to recognise where your school excels.
- This information can also inform your action plan for Geography.
- Should Ofsted visit and want to discuss Geography at your school or conduct a Geography deep dive, this document will ensure you have the facts you need at your fingertips.
