Different ways people pray
This Kapow pupil video is part of the Kapow Religion and worldviews scheme of work. It explores how people from different worldviews pray in different ways. Prayer can include words, actions, objects, and clothing. Some people pray out loud, some silently. Others reflect or meditate. Not everyone prays in the same way — and that’s OK.
Some Muslims pray five times a day and prepare with washing, called Wudu. They might use a prayer mat or prayer beads, and wear clothing like a hijab to show respect. Some Jewish people wear a kippah or a tallis shawl, and may use tefillin — small boxes with Torah verses. Some Hindus pray at home or in temples using lamps, incense and flowers as offerings to God. Even people from the same religion might pray in different ways, depending on their family, tradition or what feels right to them.
