The symbolism of Water

This Religion and worldviews video introduces teachers to the unit “What is the significance of water?” and supports children in exploring the symbolic and ritual use of water across a range of religious worldviews. It equips teachers to guide pupils through key concepts such as cleansing, purity, and respect by examining Buddhist water rituals, Shinto shrine practices, Christian baptism, and stories from Jewish, Christian, Hindu and Muslim traditions. The video also supports thoughtful, inclusive discussions and encourages children to reflect on their own experiences and interpretations of water in everyday and spiritual life.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Religion and worldviews resources – symbolism. It simplifies symbolic and ritual concepts, ensuring teachers feel confident and prepared to help children explore belief, meaning and shared human experience in the lesson and unit below.
