Creating repeating pattern prints

This archived Art and design scheme of work video introduces teachers to a development from the Zentangle drawing lesson, where Key stage 2 pupils turn their designs into one-colour repeating pattern prints. It explores how repeating patterns are used by designers in fabrics, wallpaper, tiles, and other cultural industries, and how pupils can apply the same principles in their own work. The video demonstrates each stage, from preparing and inking tiles to pressing prints, rotating designs, and building up a collaborative tessellated pattern across fabric or paper.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s original UKS2 Art and design resources. It provides teachers with clear guidance to help pupils explore repetition, tessellation, and printmaking techniques, while encouraging collaboration and creativity to produce striking large-scale patterned artworks.
