Exploring colour through weaving

This archived Art and design scheme of work video introduces teachers to a weaving activity where Key stage 2 pupils use mood boards to inspire their choice of colours and materials. Building on paper weaving, pupils experiment with wool, ribbon, tie-dyed fabric, and other textiles to explore texture and pattern. The video demonstrates each stage, from preparing a simple cardboard loom and stringing the warp to weaving with different wefts, tightening rows, and tying ends, before reflecting on how successfully their chosen materials combine.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s original LKS2 Art and design resources. It supports teachers in helping pupils develop weaving skills, experiment with colour and texture, and evaluate the effectiveness of different materials, while linking design inspiration to practical making.
