An overview of the knowledge and skills covered in the Using computers 2 unit

This Computing teacher video provides an overview of the unit, introducing the key knowledge, skills and vocabulary pupils develop throughout the sequence of lessons. It explores the input–program–output model, helps teachers identify different input and output devices and explains how pupils build their understanding of different types of computers while developing confidence in logging in safely and organising digital work using clear file names and folders.

The video also introduces Kapow’s Animal Explorer tool and provides practical guidance for preparing resources and organising paired activities using shared devices. Throughout, the emphasis is on supporting teachers to deliver the unit with confidence while helping pupils develop secure foundations in using computers safely, effectively and independently.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Computing videos, which help pupils develop their understanding of computer systems and digital technology. It encourages children to recognise how computers are used in everyday life and the different ways they can help us.
