Poetry and portraits

This archived Art and design scheme of work video introduces teachers to a self-portrait activity that combines continuous line drawing with text or poetry. It encourages Key stage 2 pupils to work creatively from photographs, live models, or mirrors, while experimenting with drawing without lifting their pencil from the page. The video demonstrates each stage, from capturing outlines and facial features in a single flowing line to layering tracing paper over the portrait and following the lines with written words or poetry to enhance expression.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s original KS2 Art and design resources. It supports teachers in guiding pupils to merge visual and written creativity, helping them to explore rhythm, expression, and identity while producing unique and personal self-portraits.
