Creating a zine

This Art and design scheme of work video supports the final lesson of the unit, where children respond creatively to their learning about ancient Egyptian art by making a handmade zine.

A zine is a small book made from a single sheet of paper, folded and cut to form pages. Pupils use their zines to share what they’ve learned, combining images and text in a personal and imaginative way. The video shows each folding step, after which pupils will fold the paper into a mini book.

Using interesting paper makes the zines more unique. Once folded, pupils can decorate their pages with drawings, collage, and writing, sharing ideas about ancient Egyptian art in their own unique voice.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Year 3 Ancient Egyptian scrolls unit. It helps children reflect on their learning through a creative and unique response.
