Creative invention challenge

This archived Art and design scheme of work video introduces teachers to a lesson where Key stage 2 pupils take on the role of inventors, inspired by artist and designer Dominic Wilcox and his Little Inventors project. It explores how ideas develop from words and sketches into detailed designs, encouraging creativity, perseverance, and problem-solving. The video demonstrates each stage, from generating ideas in sketchbooks with spidergrams to refining and naming inventions, adding descriptive detail, and presenting imaginative solutions that could even be shared online.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s original KS2 Art and design resources. It supports teachers in guiding pupils to think like inventors, combining creativity with design skills, while developing confidence in idea generation, communication, and imaginative problem-solving.
