Sculptures with bottle lids

This archived Art and design scheme of work video introduces teachers to a sculpture project inspired by Ghanaian artist El Anatsui, where Key stage 2 pupils create collaborative artworks using recycled bottle lids. It highlights both the artistic possibilities of unusual materials and the environmental message behind reusing waste. The video demonstrates each stage, from sorting lids by size and colour to arranging and gluing them in patterns, before mounting the work onto card to create striking, textured sculptures that echo Anatsui’s style.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s original LKS2 Art and design resources. It supports teachers in guiding pupils to experiment with form, pattern, and recycled materials, while fostering awareness of environmental issues and encouraging group collaboration to produce bold, large-scale sculptures.
