Unit overview of Computing systems: Understanding hardware, networks and security

This Computing teacher video provides an overview of the unit, introducing the key knowledge and skills pupils develop throughout the sequence of lessons. It explores computer hardware, including switches and storage devices, and compares local and cloud storage. The video also explains how pupils build on their understanding of networks by following the journey of files and website data, including how data packets travel across the internet.

The video explores how pupils develop troubleshooting skills by using logical steps to identify and solve common hardware and network problems. It also introduces approaches to protecting data, including passwords, biometric security and two-factor authentication. Throughout, the emphasis is on supporting teachers to understand the progression of knowledge and skills across the unit and the outcomes pupils are working towards.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Computing videos, which support teachers in developing confidence and subject knowledge when teaching Computing.
