Why water matters so much

This Kapow pupil video is part of the Kapow Religion and worldviews scheme of work. It explores why water is important to people around the world and how it can be both practical and sacred. Some people see it as a symbol of purity, cleansing or new life, while others value it for what it helps us do each day. Religious and non-religious worldviews both recognise water as something special.

Water is found in rivers, seas, waterfalls, lakes and streams, and we use it to drink, cook, clean and grow food. We play in it, travel on it and even use it to create electricity. In some religions, water is part of important rituals and ceremonies. For example, it can be used to wash before prayer, welcome new babies, or celebrate a fresh start. All living things need water to survive. What does water mean to you?

The video is designed to be shown to pupils as part of Religion and worldviews, key stage 2, Year 3, *Updated* Why is water symbolic? Lesson 1: Why is water important?
