Learning how to weave using wool and ribbon to create a pattern

In this Design and technology video, the pupils follow steps to weave wool or ribbon over and under the bars of a baking cooling rack or grill, creating a pattern.

The video demonstrates how to thread lengths of wool under one bar and then over the next, completing the following thread in the opposite way to the first, all the way along the rack. The children are encouraged to use different colours and types of threads to make a pattern. The weaving activity in the video helps them to understand how some fabrics are made by weaving warp and weft threads and also develops fine motor skills.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Design and technology videos, which enable teachers and pupils to explore and make their own products.
