Three ways, one God

This Kapow pupil video is part of the Kapow Religion and worldviews scheme of work. It explores the Christian belief in the Trinity – the idea that God can be experienced in three different ways.

Christians believe in one God who is understood as the Father (the creator), the Son (Jesus), and the Holy Spirit (God’s presence in the world). This belief is called the Trinity, meaning ‘three in one’. To help explain this, some people compare it to water, which can be a solid, liquid or gas – different forms, but still the same substance. Stories from the Bible show how Christians understand each part of the Trinity. At Pentecost, the Holy Spirit is described as wind and fire, symbolising power and guidance. Christians might also use images like a dove or breath to represent the Holy Spirit. While it may seem like three separate beings, Christians believe these are different expressions of the same one God.
