Exploring Jerusalem: Why do sacred places feel important?
This Religion and worldviews pupil video follows a travel blog-style journey through Jerusalem, exploring why the city is significant for many people and what it feels like to visit important religious sites in person.
Through the perspective of a visitor who does not identify with a religious belief, the video introduces pupils to key places in Jerusalem, including the Via Dolorosa, the Church of the Holy Sepulchre and the Western Wall. It highlights their historical and religious importance for Christian and Jewish people, while also showing how these places are experienced by tourists and believers alike.
The video helps pupils understand the concept of pilgrimage and why certain locations hold deep meaning. It explores how being physically present in a place of significance can create a strong emotional response, even for those who do not share the beliefs connected to it.
Pupils are encouraged to reflect on themes such as respect, personal response and connection, as well as considering why people from a range of backgrounds choose to visit and engage with sacred places.
This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Religion and worldviews videos. It supports pupils in exploring different worldviews and reflecting on their own ideas about significant places.
