The night of power

This Kapow pupil video is part of the Kapow Religion and worldviews scheme of work. It tells the story of the Prophet Muhammad and how Muslims believe he received God’s message through the Angel Jibril, beginning his special role as the final prophet in the Muslim worldview.

Muhammad was born in the city of Makkah, where the Ka’bah once stood for belief in one God. As he grew up, he became known for his kindness and honesty. He often spent time alone in a quiet cave, thinking and praying. One night during Ramadan, Muslims believe the Angel Jibril appeared to him with a message from Allah, beginning with the word “Read.” Even though Muhammad could not read, he found himself speaking powerful words about creation and knowledge. This moment is known as the Night of Power. It marked the start of Muhammad’s role as a prophet, sharing God’s messages about kindness, justice, and faith. These teachings were later written down in the Qur’an, a book that guides Muslims today.

The video is designed to be shown to pupils as part of Religion and worldviews, key stage 2, Year 3, Is scripture central to religion? Lesson 3: How is scripture used by some Muslims?
