The Hindu creation story

This Kapow pupil video is part of the Kapow Religion and worldviews scheme of work. It tells a Hindu story about the creation of the world and the important roles of Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva. At the beginning of time, there was nothing. Vishnu lay sleeping on a giant cobra in the middle of this nothingness. As the sound Aum grew louder, it woke Vishnu, and a lotus flower grew from his belly. From this flower, Brahma appeared. Vishnu told Brahma to create the world. Brahma used lotus petals to make the heaven, earth, and sky. Then he created plants, animals, and all living things. Many Hindus believe in one God with different names: Brahma the creator, Vishnu the protector, and Shiva, who brings about change as the cycle begins again.

The video is designed to be shown to pupils as part of Religion and worldviews, Mixed-age, Y1/2 (A): What do some people believe God looks like? Lesson 3: What do some Hindu people believe God looks like?
