Learn British Sign Language: Fish
In this Geography video, the children learn the British Sign Language (BSL) sign for fish. The children are shown that this involves holding one hand out and moving it forward while wiggling the wrist, to represent a fish swimming.
The video is part of an optional Geography Sustainability lesson in which the children explore different animal habitats, such as ponds, logpiles and nests. They identify which animals live in each habitat. As they watch, the children are encouraged to make the sign for the animal they think belongs in each place.
The fish sign helps the children recognise that fish live in water and have fins instead of legs, which help them to swim. This short clip supports learning through movement and observation, helping to reinforce understanding of animals and their homes.
This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Geography Sustainability collection. It supports discussions about how creating animal homes can help look after the environment.
