Exploring monoprinting
This Art and design video introduces the children to painterly monoprinting through a clear, step-by-step demonstration. The children learn how to roll a thin layer of paint or printing ink onto acetate, place a portrait photograph on top and press along selected lines, varying the pressure to create different effects before revealing their print.
The video also demonstrates how to create expressive painted marks directly on acetate and transfer them to the page. The children discover how to account for the image being reversed during printing and use pieces of paper to prevent selected areas from printing. By exploring these techniques, they are encouraged to experiment with marks, pressure and layering to create expressive effects in their own portrait work.
This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Art and design painting videos, which support teachers in developing confidence and subject knowledge as they help children explore artistic processes and communicate their ideas through art.
