The stave
This Music video introduces Year 4 pupils to the stave and how musicians use notation to read, write and share music. It explains that the stave is made up of five horizontal lines and four spaces, where notes can sit on a line or in a space to show pitch.
The lesson explores how the position of a note tells us whether a sound is high or low, introducing pupils to middle C and the treble clef. Children begin to understand how notation helps musicians know what to play and supports accurate performance and the communication of musical ideas.
This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Music videos, which support teachers in developing confidence and subject knowledge when helping children explore musical notation, pitch and performance.
