A humanist baby celebration

This Kapow pupil video is part of the Kapow Religion and worldviews scheme of work. It explores how some families who follow a Humanist worldview celebrate the arrival of a new baby. These celebrations are not based on belief in God but focus on love, community, and joy.

There are no fixed rules for Humanist baby celebrations. Families choose what feels right for them, often including poems, songs, stories or symbolic acts like planting a tree. Friends and family may give gifts or share kind words and promises for the baby’s future. The celebration is about welcoming the baby and sharing hopes for a happy and meaningful life.

The video is designed to be shown to pupils as part of Religion and worldviews, Key stage 1, Year 1, How do we know that new babies are special? Lesson 6: How are some babies named?
