Helmets are designed to keep people safe

This Design and technology video introduces the children to helmets as an everyday example of a protective shell structure. It explains how helmets are specially designed to keep people safe in different situations, from riding bikes and exploring outdoors to travelling at speed and working in hazardous environments. The video shows how their curved, strong shells are designed to protect. It highlights the importance of design in keeping people safe and helps the children see the real-world purpose of shell structures.

This video is part of the Year 4, Structures: Helmets unit. It makes technical ideas clear and relatable, preparing the children to apply their understanding of shell structures when learning about how and why helmets are shaped the way they are.
