Confession in Catholic belief

This Kapow pupil video is part of the Kapow Religion and worldviews scheme of work. It explores the Catholic practice of confession. Many Catholics believe this is a way to say sorry, receive forgiveness from God, and make a fresh start. Confession is based on Jesus’ teachings in the Bible and is an important part of Catholic life.

A person reflects on their actions and shares them with a priest in a quiet space called a confessional. The priest listens, gives guidance, and suggests a prayer or good deed to show the person is sorry. Catholics believe this brings peace, strengthens their connection to God, and helps them live a better life. Confession is private, personal, and seen by many as a chance to grow, improve, and feel closer to God.

The video is designed to be shown to pupils as part of Religion and worldview, key stage 2, Year 3, What happens if we do wrong? Lesson 2: Why might confession be important after wrongdoing?
