This Computing video introduces the children to the idea that computers are all around us, including many that do not look like traditional computers. Through familiar examples such as automatic doors, card machines and dishwashers, the children discover that different computer systems help people complete everyday tasks.

The video explains that all computer systems receive inputs, follow instructions in a program and produce outputs. By exploring how these systems work in real-life situations, the children begin to understand that many different types of computers use the same input–process–output model, even though they may look and behave very differently.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Computing videos, which help pupils develop their understanding of computer systems and digital technology. It encourages children to recognise how computers are used in everyday life and the different ways they can help us.
