Adaptive teaching
Children who need support:
- Could use structured talking prompts to identify hazards by completing the sentence: “The hazard is… it could cause… a safer choice would be…”.
- Could work in a guided small group to complete the Activity: Risk radar to rehearse spotting one example together before moving independently, by discussing what the hazard is and why it is unsafe.
- Could use a limited set of photos from the Activity: Risk radar to reduce cognitive load by focusing on fewer images and identifying hazards in depth rather than scanning all images.
Children working at greater depth:
- Should justify the safest action in a scenario by comparing at least two possible choices and explaining which reduces risk most effectively.
- Should evaluate whether a situation requires a trusted adult or a 999 call and justify their decision.
