Adaptive teaching

Pupils needing extra support

  • Could be shown the class’s first aid kit before the lesson so that they are acquainted with and can name its contents.
  • Could use the sentence starter in the Presentation: Serious or not to practise asking for help by completing and rehearsing simple phrases.

Pupils working at greater depth

  • Should explain the difference between small and serious injuries by referring to examples from the lesson.
  • Should recognise when a situation becomes urgent by suggesting how an injury could worsen over time (for example, a cut that does not stop bleeding).
  • Should explain why first aid may not be enough by giving examples where further help is needed.
  • Could justify their decisions during the Serious or not activity by referring to evidence from each scenario.
