Adaptive teaching
Pupils needing extra support
- Could be shown the class’s first aid kit before the lesson so that they are acquainted with and can name its contents.
- Could use the sentence starter in the Presentation: Serious or not to practise asking for help by completing and rehearsing simple phrases.
Pupils working at greater depth
- Should explain the difference between small and serious injuries by referring to examples from the lesson.
- Should recognise when a situation becomes urgent by suggesting how an injury could worsen over time (for example, a cut that does not stop bleeding).
- Should explain why first aid may not be enough by giving examples where further help is needed.
- Could justify their decisions during the Serious or not activity by referring to evidence from each scenario.
