Pupils needing extra support:

Should be encouraged to keep their motif simple, e.g. playing from C to G and back again; could be given a pre-recorded or modelled motif to practise or develop.

Pupils working at greater depth:

Should be encouraged to use leaps within their motif, rather than just notes next to each other, for example, CC GG EE C; could develop their motifs further, e.g. developing motifs beyond the notes of C to G or using a wider range of instruments.
