  • To understand that sketchbooks are used for developing ideas and trying things out

National Curriculum Links

  • Pupils should be taught to develop their techniques, including their control and their use of materials, with creativity, experimentation and an increasing awareness of different kinds of art, craft and design.

  • Pupils should be taught to create sketchbooks to record their observations and use them to review and revisit ideas

Differentiation

Pupils needing extra support: May need letter templates or a printed sheet with outlines to use. Some may require extra encouragement to try out unfamiliar materials.

 

Pupils working at greater depth: Could create designs that represent something about them as individuals. Could explain their choices of material or techniques to create particular effects.
