Teaching online safety

The Kapow Primary Computing curriculum provides a dedicated online safety unit in every year group from Year 1 to Year 6.

These units are designed to be taught either:

  • As a full unit during a designated term.
  • As discrete lessons woven throughout the year (e.g. timed with national events such as Safer Internet Day).

Although online safety is not taught as a discrete key area in EYFS (Reception), pupils are introduced to its basic concepts through guided play and interactions with technology, in line with the ‘Understanding the world’ area of the EYFS Framework.
