How to use the planning tool
The adaptive teaching planning tool takes you through five questions to help you decide when, where and how to adapt your teaching.
1. What is the learning goal?
Start with what you want pupils to know, understand or be able to do, and what they need to succeed.
2. What could get in the way?
Anticipate potential barriers that might make it harder for pupils to access or demonstrate the intended learning.
3. Who needs additional support?
Consider individual pupils and use what you know about their needs to decide where additional support is necessary.
4. What could you adapt?
Choose a simple, purposeful adaptation that addresses the identified barrier while keeping the learning goal ambitious.
5. Did it work?
Review the impact of the adaptation. What helped? What might need to change? What should you do next?
Same goal. Different support. Based on need.
