Attacking strategies in football

This PE scheme of work video introduces teachers to a strategic lesson where Key stage 2 pupils learn how to break down a defence in football through teamwork and communication. It builds on skills from earlier units by encouraging pupils to work together, share roles and possession, and apply tactical thinking. Teachers are guided through a three-player attacking drill where movement, timing, and drawing defenders are key to creating space and scoring opportunities. Pupils are also encouraged to develop and try out their own attacking ideas.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s PE Football resources. It simplifies the process, providing engaging activities like “Capture the Ball,” where pupils begin to share strategies, and a final 5 v 5 match to apply their thinking in a game setting. Teachers are supported with guidance on managing safe tackling, encouraging space awareness, and helping pupils evaluate and improve their team performance in a fun, supportive environment.
