Pupil video: Stage awareness

Pupil video: Giving a good performance

This Music video introduces children to the concept of stage awareness and explores how performers use their bodies and voices to communicate with an audience. Children learn how performance skills can have a significant impact on the quality and effectiveness of a musical performance.

The video models stronger and weaker examples of stage awareness, helping children identify the behaviours that support successful singing and performance. Pupils compare two performers, observing one who demonstrates strong stage awareness through good posture, an open mouth, clear diction, confident projection and focused engagement, alongside another who displays less effective performance skills, such as slouching, looking down, mumbling and showing limited engagement with the audience.

As they watch and discuss the examples, children develop their understanding of how physical presentation and vocal technique contribute to a confident performance. The video encourages pupils to reflect on their own performance skills and recognise how simple changes can help them sing more clearly and engage more effectively with an audience.

Through observation and discussion, pupils build the vocabulary needed to evaluate musical performances and identify strategies for improvement. The video reinforces the importance of maintaining good posture, keeping eyes focused, projecting the voice and performing with energy and confidence.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Music curriculum support materials, designed to help teachers develop confidence, subject knowledge and practical strategies when delivering the Four-Chord Pop unit.
