Mixed-age
Full curriculum coverage for mixed-age Geography, developing pupils’ skills and knowledge across four key areas: Locational knowledge; Place knowledge; Human and physical geography; and Geographical skills and fieldwork.
How it works
The mixed-age units follow a Cycle A and Cycle B format, supporting progression of skills across the age range.
- In Year 1/2, units should be taught in the suggested order as the knowledge builds from local to global, introducing the concept of scale.
- Units can be taught in any order in Year 3/4 but should all be covered within these two years.
- In Year 5/6, the energy and independent fieldwork units should be taught in the final term as they involve more complex thinking and independent work. Other units can be taught in any order but should be completed within these two years.
