Safe and creative dough cutting
This Design and technology video introduces teachers to teaching dough-cutting techniques, equipping them with the knowledge to develop children’s fine motor skills, creativity, and awareness of material use. It covers safe handling of dough cutters for early years, introduces table knife techniques in Key Stage 1, and explores strategies for reducing waste and maximising dough use in Key Stage 2. Teachers are guided through demonstrations for each stage, supporting progression in both skill and understanding.
This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Design and technology – Teacher skills videos for Food. It simplifies practical food preparation skills, ensuring teachers feel confident and prepared to help children cut dough safely, effectively, and thoughtfully in the lesson and unit below.
