This Design and technology scheme of work video introduces teachers to teaching dough-cutting techniques, equipping them with the knowledge to develop the children’s fine motor skills, creativity and awareness of material use. It covers safe handling of dough cutters in Reception, introduces table knife techniques in Key stage 1 and explores strategies in Key stage 2 for reducing waste and making the most of the dough. Teachers are guided through clear demonstrations at each stage to support progression in skill and understanding.

This video simplifies practical food preparation skills and builds teacher confidence to help the children cut dough safely, effectively and thoughtfully in the lesson and unit below.
