Revising comparisons and justification

This French video introduces teachers to a lesson where pupils revisit descriptive and comparative structures but apply them in listening and reading contexts rather than speaking. The focus is on consolidating knowledge of plus que (more than) and introducing moins que (less than), alongside the new connective parce que (because). Through this, children begin to justify facts and opinions, a key step for upper key stage two French. The central activity involves working with a fact file on Saturn, using gap-fill tasks that move from multiple choice to open-ended completion, providing clear opportunities to assess understanding of adjectives and agreement.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s French scheme – vocabulary. It supports teachers in blending language learning with cross-curricular scientific knowledge. By encouraging pupils to notice and deduce rather than relying on direct translation, the lesson develops independence and problem-solving strategies. The combination of shared listening, individual reading, and group reflection gives flexibility for class management, while the fact file model prepares higher-ability learners for extended writing later in the unit.
